Advice Needed for Point to Point Wireless Access
by AnnettaColeman - 4/10/12 9:58 AM
I have DSL internet and an old wireless router in my residence. I need to expand the wireless access to include my home/business office which is on the ground floor of a building 100 feet from my residence. There is a clear line of sight to both a wall and a large window on the 2nd floor of the office building, however my real need is to have wireless access to the ground floor of that building which does not have a clear line of sight from my residence.
I currently have the following:
- Out of service D-Link DIR-655 wireless router located in my residence
- Older "Hawking Technologies" Amplifier connecting the wireless router to an SMC Antenna in the residence window
- Older but still new in the box Linksys E3000 High Performance Dual Band Wireless-N Router that has never been installed.
- I do not currently have any wireless hardware at all in the office building.
I can currently get a weak signal if I am close to the upper floor window of the office building and can get no signal at all in the lower lower of the office building where I REALLY need it.
I would greatly appreciate recommendations as to what hardware I need to achieve good wireless signal to the lower floor of the office building. If any of my existing hardware can be used, I would like to do so. If, on the other hand, I need to scrap some or all of my existing hardware, I am willing to do so.
Please advise. Thanks.
