Six laptops, one router, one motem

Hello everyone, I need some advice on my wireless network,

Currently I have my laptop logged on my home wireless network that also supports five other laptops. There are no other networks, so i'm stuck with this one. We have a Belkin router connected to a Motorola mstatea AT&T DSL Modem 2210-02-1022. The network usually runs at a decent speed, but playing games (MMO and online FPS) is almost impossible due to the amount of lag.Only one laptop can game at a time, and I can only play when all the other laptops are turned off. Also, watching YouTube slows down the entire network.

Is there anything I can do to play my games while the other laptops are in use and/or gaming?

Will a new modem or router help?

Wire connections even if it's not preferable. WiFi has a finite SHARED bandwidth and you can improve what you have by going wired when possible. NO I MEAN "POSSIBLE." Some folk dig in their heels on this but the ugly truth is wired frees up the WiFi air space so you get the best possible solution.

And gamers eventually learn to get wired. Some don't and they complain more.

looking for an alternative

Thanks Bob, I do realize that will improve my speed, but I am not very enthusiastic about drilling holes in the walls and floor. The only other alternative is run 60+ feet of eathernet cable up the stairs. My laptop is inconvinently located at the other end of the building.
Is there any other way to improve speed?

What's the speed of your pipe?

DSL is usually a slower connection compared to cable. If your 6 machines are trying to access the Net on a slow DSL connection, no router wired or wireless LAN upgrade will improve your situation.

In short, you need a bigger pipe.

We have power line networking too.

I bought one just for the HDTV connection. At 60 feet, through walls I would see some systems not work well.

But I didn't say wire everything. Getting more things off wifi improves what's left on wifi.
