Ok, why the weird signal icon??

(XP Pro SP3)
I don't get why the wifi signal quality icon on the bottom right corner of my taskbar says "Very Good", when if I'm less than 6 feet away from the router, it *should* read "Excellent".


Why the discrepancy?
For the record, I do share the router signal with a 2nd laptop. Or is it all about physical positioning of my laptop?

The router was on an Euro channel so this happens. I wonder if consumers should be sold gear like this?

Depends on what the router is displaying. Signal strength and signal quality are different things. The best example I a can think of is to take 2 radios put them next to each other on different stations and turn up the volume.

You would hear a very loud sound but it would be of poor quality.
