Working around public wifi limitations?

I recently bought a wireless printer and was disappointed to learn that I could not access it wirelessly, nor could I use the email-based ePrint feature because I access the internet through a public network provided by my apartment complex.

Is there a way to work around this so I may utilize the wireless feature of my printer? Can I use a router to set up a personal network underneath the public wifi or something like that?

But here's the problem. While I know how to do this, I can't hold hands because you must be self supportive. With that out of the way you use a PC as a client device such as http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/ and plug your router into your LAN port of your PC and then configure your router as a WAP.

Again, if this is geek speak, this solution is not for you.
