ODD only one device able to connect wirelessly - HELP!

Ok so after being on the phone for 2 hours with both NetGear and Comcast they came to the conclusion that my problem is not related to the router or my internet service - instead they suggest it's the adapter in my pc. I have a laptop and a PC that use a wireless connection - today only my laptop is able to connect. My PC is saying not connected. Both are in the same room. I'm running Windows XP version 5.1.
When I click on Wireless Network Connections, I see NETGEAR and click connect it just says "Acquiring Network Address" for a very long time and then it goes back to not being connected. Comcast has sent signals but since the laptop is connecting wirelessly they say it's not the modem. Netgear says the same thing about the router. Please help! I am using D-Link DWA- 552 XtremeN Desktop Adapter (but when I checked the driver it says that "This device is working properly. If you are having problems click Troubleshoot." So I'm not sure what the problem is.
I don't know if this is necessary but in the days leading up to this my PC was abnormally SLOW and I kept getting kicked off of the internet. Oh and today I was just notified that my AVG Antivirus Free 2011 is expired. Also when I tried to Repair the connection it says that the security key is different - when I check and reenter the key, the problem is still not solved. Again not sure if this makes a difference.
