Slow wireless speeds... others on network are getting better

Hey guys... looking for some help on why my connection speeds are so slow. I've got comcast cable that is rated at 25Mbps and there are 6 of us guys in the house each with our own rooms and computers, etc. For the past year I've constantly watched netflix and streamed movies with never an issue. In the past week I can not watch netflix.. I'll get in about 5 minutes then it will say connection lost and boot me. So I looked into my CPU. I'm only getting about 5-7 Mbps (this is after hours of troubleshooting, cleaning, etc). The kid in the room next to me gets 20-25 on his laptop and I'll still get 5-7 directly next to him. I believe he has n and I only have abg.. can that account for such a large difference?
Then to further my tests I brought my laptop into the router room. At first I was still getting the same speeds even over LAN. After some work I got it from 10-19 consistently on LAN. But then wireless again, with my CPU 1 foot from the router, I'm only getting 7-9. Something isn't right here. Another housemate is also getting 20-25 but he is LAN. I'm suspecting a router issue. At my other home, verizon fios, I get 20-25 Mbps over wireless, so clearly my laptop card can handle it.
Also, I tested my Wii, as well as my Windows phone, both in my room with my laptop. Wii averages 2-3 Mbps, my phone averages 1-2 Mbps.
So how do I tell if the router is the issue? How do I tell if it's the settings or the router itself? What could cause this sudden change that was never an issue before?
Windows 7 64 bit, 4 gig ram, intel pro/wireless 3945abg card, router secure to wpa2 personal aep, broadcasting b/g/n... any other relevant info i'd be happy to provide if it can help.
thanks a lot guys
