Hi everyone,



I am hoping someone can help me with my brand new Linksys E1000 wireless router. I am really struggling and cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.



I live in The Netherlands, have a modem (DSL I think...) and can connect wired through the modem with no problems.



I installed the E1000 with the CD, followed all the steps and my laptop is finding the network. However, it's only local, no internet and I don't understand why. Have tried to connect (wired) my computer to the E1000 and the E1000 to the modem but that doesn't work either.



Am running Vista if that helps.



Am hopelessly lost and confused and would appreciate any help!

Try adding the make and model of the DSL device. And please don't hit return so much as it makes it harder to read.

Sorry, have tried to amend it but not sure how.
My DSL modem is Arris TM722 provided by my ISP. It also hooks up my telephone and digital tv. Think it might be a settings problem in my laptop as I am pretty sure I have connected the router and modem correctly. Just not sure what I am missing.

I won't duplicate the full text of prior discussions so let's go.

1. Either clone the MAC address of that machine you are connecting and using the cable modem with or power cycle the modem (yes you get to pull the battery) when you switch from using the modem directly to using the router.

2. Do not use a default LAN range of 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x. Change that in your new router.

Item one seems to be most folk's Waterloo.

most likely... lol ... somthing to do with IPv4 and/or IPv6..... im running vista.. took me awhile to figure this exact problem out but i eventually did it... you need to go to ... start > control panel > network and sharing... here you should see where it says " connection wirelss network connection (your connection)" beside that should be different color, underlined words that say "view status" click that.... "general" is the only tab on this little pop up window titled "wireless network connection status".... there should be two sections called connection with its own set of options and activity... under activity click properties. should have a little sheild beside it.... a networking tab should pop up.... find where it says ipv4 and ipv6 on this page click one then click properties... then click automatically obtain... close that then do the same to the other

Not sure how to do step 1. How do I clone the MAC address? Do I connect the laptop to the router and then the router to the modem?

Not a clue what 'power cycle the modem' means. You're referring to the DSL device right? When do I do this?

Step 2, what should I change the default LAN range to?

Sorry, am completely useless I know!

And documented in the router manual. Because you must support your system, I refer you back to the manual or OPT OUT! I noted another way.

Step 2 is again in the manual but my bet is when you complete step one, it may just work.
