Which wireless router has the longest range?

My wireless network is set up in the center of my house. I would like to be able to work in my garage which is in a separate building (through thick walls) about 100 feet from my router. I have an old Linksys router now which allows for a weak connection.

I have read all the CNET reveiws, which lists their performance. I was wondering if any are better than others at literally going the distance.

While you might find a router review that gives it great range, YOUR LOCATION can cause it to have far shorter range.

And if you wonder why most routers have about the same range the reason is very simple. The power output is limited by law.

100 Feet and being reliable is going to be a problem. Not only is the distance an issue but setup is VERY IMPORTANT.

If I was to do this the router would have LINE OF SIGHT to the other building and I would put a BRIDGE in that building's window and then off to a second wifi WAP to give good coverage there.

Setup is not that hard.

Linksys E4200

The new Linksys E series routers are very good. Namely the E4200. It has 6 internal MIMO antennas for great range and speed.

Chosse D-Link DIR-655

I own a D-Link DIR-655 router and I am across the street from my brother's house which is where I connected my D-Link DIR-655 router so it can transmit a signal to me. Where I am is located probably 150-200 feet away, i believe it is pretty far. I get up to 52 Mbps. The router is capable of 300 Mbps but it usually connects at 65 Mbps to 135 Mbps if you are near and if the correct setting are right.

Newegg has a great deal on D-Link DIR-655. I bought it there and have been very satisfied with that little white N Router. By the way, it is a b/g/n router.

I realize this thread is a couple of years old, however I LOVE my Dir 655 router. So much, that I am very reluctant to give it up until I can find one that will go the distance this one does for me! Its simply incredible and provides internet access for many of my senior tenants here with the small mobile home park we live in.~ I hope it keeps on going because so far, all of the newer routers dont seem to compare at all... sad
