I had a similar issue as well. I looked all over the net reading through all these forums and posts and called tech support to no avail. No matter how many times i changes my setting and reset stuff on both dekstop and laptop nothing worked. Finally, someone had an idea that worked like magic and was very simple! The problem was not with the computers, hardware, or the ip settings... the problem was actually with the linksys software on your laptop. I know this sounds crazy, but what i was told to do was:

uninstall the software, reboot, let your computer automatically detect the new hardware, the install wizard will pop upand ask you if you have the linksys cd, pop the cd into your laptop and only use it to install the drivers. just reboot again and you should be good to go!

WRE54G with a BT HUB

Has anyone managed to get the WRE54G to work with the BT HUB. (BT Fusion Wirless Hub)
If so How?
Have tried most things but still get the msg unable to associate with this AP.
As the WRE54G seems to see the hub ok I can't see why it can not ''talk'' to it as it is only a repeater afterall.

Well known. At first they only worked with same maker products. Later it got better but then as people learned to secure their WIFI connections (a good thing) people discovered that disabling SSID broadcasts would disable the repeater. Similar issues abound with WEP and WPA.

Ethernet yes wireless No

1)Expander connects to Bt Hub via ethernet cable. & laptop can connect to internet via expander wirelessly.
2)Laptop connects to expander BUT expander does not connect to Hub via wireless?
Not sure what is going on here as if the system works via the expander hub ethernet why can I not make it work via wireless?

I have read through the excellent information provided here to see if I could solve my problem. As yet I cannot fathom the solution (then again, I might just not be thinking straight). Any help with this would be good (but please be patient and fairly detailed with any responses as my level of understanding is only medium).

I have an adsl2 connection coming into my home. It links directly into my Netcomm ADSL modem NB5plus4. I have a single desktop connected to it. I have a second cable going to a Netgear WPN824 range max router sending the signal through the house. This has worked fairly well except for a couple of dead spots in the house. To fix that I bought the Linksys WRE54G and set it up.

I had tried to connect with WEP enabled without success. I disabled the WEP and got the software to connect with the WRE54g. I cannot however get it to conncet with WEP on. The screen comes up with the software when it is enabled and I put in the key, but nothing happens. I have hidden the SSID and enabled mac addresses (I had these enabled previously). I found it would connect to my laptop as the access point but not the WPN824. When it connected to the WPN824 I got the could not access this AP in repeater mode response. I have not had any luck with any of the suggestions here to get round that.

I thought I would try and access the web page (192.168.1.240) but get nothing.

My Netcom modem uses the 192.168.1.1 address, the Netgear wireless uses 192.168.5.1 address.

I cannot access the wre54g web page and cannot get the system to work with wep on (or wpa either). except when it connects to the laptop as ana ccess point. Either way I cannot get any security on the system. When I get another computer to link it I get IP address duplications.

All IP and DNS addresses are assigned automatically and I am unsure on cnaging these. My ISP page says these should be assigned this way.

If anyone can understand my abstract ramblings and help I would be much appreciated.

Got it working, basicaly by using the ethernet connection to set up the WPA and then using it wireless and changing the settings using the config page. At no time did I use the installation software.
Note:
Upgraded the firmware 1st
Used Manual config to set up the WPA
Used Manual config to set up the wireless.
The expander does not support DHCP so network computers need stateic IP address in same group as the main network
The expander's ssid needs to be the same as the routers.
Took ages but it now works seamlessly you can walk around with the laptop and it moves from Hub to expander without showing any change always when within range of either shows signal strength excellent to very good with no dropping of signal. Used share price continuous feed to test no problems.
Great gadget shame not so user friendly to set up.

excelent after a day and more of struggling - put it near the wireless router. press auto config for a while and it willpick up the router.
then reset the router to work without security enabled. open up the expander on the computer (i linked thru a wired node) and then set up security

Huge Problems with WRE54G

well i tryed everithing i mean i configured it according to the manual... then i tryed to configure it on myown but i always have the same problem... an "IP conflict" sign appears when the WRE54G connects to my network anyway my router is linksys too and its ip it configured to 192.168.1.1 and the WRE54G it configured to 192.168.1.240 , i tryed all kinds of ip number for the router and the WRE54G but i still get IP conflicts which dont allow me to work with the extender i dont have a password in my network its unsecured but i cannot find a way to make the extender work with the router i only got 1 computer conected to the router and 1 that had to be connected to the extender. i apreciate any kind of advice. thanks

Hello All,

I'm trying to set up a WRE54G RE and get it to connect to a 2Wire router. The WRE54G is suppose to be compatible with the 2Wire. I wouldn't think that the autoconfig on the WRE54G would work since I'm trying to connect to a different brand of wireless router. Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanx ahead of time.

Some have disabled SSID broadcast. If you read the notes here and there you learn you can't do that.

Well I know that and I have read everything here a couple of times, but thanks for the suggestion. By the way, the wre54g is a version 1 so there will be no hardwiring it to give it a static, any other ideas? Anyone?? Thanks!!!!

Sorry this doesn't help solve the issue. I can't count how many times I cure such by going over the setup first hand. The owner for some reason dismisses the SSID broadcast since they read some pundit's advice to disable that.

Then our tech makes the call and they end up paying for the tech to flip it back on.

Linksys WRE54G and Motorola SBG900

I recently purchased a Linksys WRE54G Range Expander...and it would not talk to my Motorola SGB900. It turn out that even though the expander was purchased recently, it was a version 1 model with version 1.04 firmware. That firmware was a no go!! I downloaded the latest version - version 1.06.05 from Linksys - and bingo all was well. The items I had to change in the configuration of the expander were the SSID and gateway address. If you are having problems with your expander, ensure you have the lastest firmware for the version of the expander that you have. I think versions two and three have the version number on them. Mine did not - so I contacted Linksys with the serial number.

can't find my Wireless-G Range Expander

I'm using Wireless-G Range Expander with zhome modem.
It seems to be connected to my network wirelesly coz both lights are blue but i can't find it when i do network search
I tried giving it different SSID then i can see it but the light would go red and can't get internet connection
when i repress "autoconfig button" the light goes blue again but it disappears from my available network list. I assume it changes its name to match my networkname. Can someone give me a hand?

"site survey fail"

please i need some help, i bought this wireless expander and everytime i tried to run the set up right between first and second step, the setup try to configure and preform a site survey and i always get the same error that says "site survey fail. Please try again" and i do it again and again and always shows the same error

please i would like to get some opinions on whats going on and what i can do, i have even try to run the setup in two different computer, and yes every time im trying to run this setup i have wireless connection.
