Wireless Internet forum: Computer cannot find my own wireless network

The works with other machines often stops people from fixing it. I can't explain why that stops people from checking the router and changing to WPA security from WEP and turning off the MAC filters.

Maybe you can explain that.

The terms are used in the manuals of the products. I strive to get you what fixes it most of the time but I feel your anger at having to become an IT NETWORK SPECIALIST when all you want is for it to work.

These are unpaid forums. I type all my replies personally and hope you are willing to work on your network issues short of me writing tutorials. If you must have a tutorial, we have many web pages and fine books.

Hope you can get it working with a little help but let me part with this. Given your post you may scare off those that want to help.

computes work with your wireless, can you compare the settings on those that work with those on your laptop to see if anything looks different? As well, on those that see your connection, they should see the SSID and type of security used. That might offer a clue or two.

I went to visit my cousins, whose wifi network I have added to my laptop since years, and it ALWAYS worked normally. Yesterday I came here again, and boom.... the wifi network is not even being detected!!

I found a work-around by USB -Tethering my Sony Xperia mini android phone and using it to access wifi.

However it was a great trouble.

After reading your tip, I disabled the "Real time protection" of avira antivirus which I use, and KABOOOM!! The wifi network was there! detected! I connected to the network, and then re-enabled the Real Time Protection of AVIRA, and restarted the laptop, and the wifi works just fine!
