Connected to router but then computer cant find router

A couple days ago my wireless internet was working just fine. We lost internet and found out that the modem was disconnected, so we plugged it back in and internet was working just fine for the other 3 computers (1 desktop pc direct connection, 1 dell laptop studio wireless, and a Macbook pro wireless) but for some reason my dell Inspiron 8600 could not connect. in fact it cant even find the the router or any random router from the neighbors which it used to pick up all the time!

under network connections it shows a symbol for wireless and it says not connected with a red x beside it
when i double click it the computer searches but finds nothing.

please help and tell me if more info is needed

the router im using is a linksys

(NT) I'm assuming you rebooted the computer.

yes. I've rebooted the computer many times. and not just a quick restart, ive let it sit for a couple hours before turning it back on. i also did a complete power circle of everything (main desktop pc, my laptop, modem, router, etc.) all plugs are in and the internet is fine considering every other laptop can connect wirelessly and through ethernet. I cant test my laptop on ethernet because it has more or less become a desktop computer ( LCD screen failed back in june 09, so i connected it to an older CRT screen, making it a half laptop =P )

im gonna take a guess that the wireless switch is off, if not then youre wireless cad is fried or youre missing the driver if you have rebooted, you most likely are look at the device manager see if you are missingg network connections, and the wireless driver under it
