Wireless Zero Configuration setting won't stay set!

I recently moved but still have the same internet provider. However, I couldn't connect to the net until a tech walked me through the process of starting the "Wireless Zero Configuration" setting in services.msc. Of course, I thought the problem was fixed until I turned off the laptop and when I turned it on again, the setting went back to "not started." Now I have to manually start the wireless zero configuration setting each time I want to connect to the net. Does anyone know how I can save the setting to "started" so I can be connected automatically? Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Conflicting Utility

Wireless Zero is the service provided in XP to select wireless networks. It is likely you have a conflicting utility running that was provided with your wireless device, and it is disabling the Wireless Zero service.

You will have to disable or uninstall the conflicting utility to get Wireless Zero to remain enabled. That likely will involve another call to your tech.

Solution?

Hey, I have this problem sometimes (though not as frequently as every start up) and I have created a small batch file called wzc (Wireless Zero Connection)

This batch file is run whenever I get the message that the WZC is not enabled. You could place this file in the startup of your computer so that it runs each time, and your internet works.

Open Notepad

1. In the file type: net start wzcsvc

2. Click file -> Save As -> .bat file

3. Save the file to the following folder:
Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

4. Reboot your system

Hopefully that should solve it.

I will definitely try that. I did talk to my service provider tech, but she couldn't (or wouldn't) fix it. She suggested I use their fee-based tech help! Thanks again.

Well, running the .bat file didn't work. Thanks anyway. I guess I'll stick with starting wzc manually!
