Would a wifi booster antenna help with public wifi access?

Our town has wifi on the "square" which reaches approximately 1 block easily off the main square.

My office is approximately 3-4 blocks off the main square. I can't get a signal at all via wireless now when I try.

Do you think any of the booster antenna would put me in range? Or are they really intended for in home and within buildings?
