Whatkind of Router do I need??

Many of my students are buying new computers with "N" cards. But other students still have older lap tops with "B" or "G" wireless cards. If I buy an "N" router..will the older lap tops pick up the "N" Router wireless signal?

Does a laptop with an "N" card require an "N" router or can it operate with a "B" or "G" router as well? Will it pick up the signal?

I have a:
Compaq V 2000
1.6 Ghz CPU
with 1.5Gb PC2700 Ram
80Gb Hard Drive
with Windows XP & SP2
with all updates

Backwards compatable - Yes. . .

All wireless routers are backward compatable. If you buy an N router it will work with the older B/G cards. No worries. My D-link DIR-655 has radio settings to select any combination:

B only
G only
N only
B/G only
B/G/N

My other Linksys WRT350N has the same settings.

Choosing the right wireless router for your needs.

Yes, the wireless N router should allow the laptops that use wireless G technology to connect. If you need help picking a router you can check out http://www.wirelessnetworksetups.com/best-wireless-router.html it helps you select a wireless router that's in your price range. As in it helps you not to overpay for a wireless router that has features you'll never use.
