Wireless Internet won't stay connected

I know this is pretty much the same thread posted but I wasn't sure if it is exactly the same problem. I've experienced my connection going out and once I go back to my settings of the network the network authentication has changed from shared to open and I'll have to reenter my network key. Once the connection is lost it also switches to another network but isn't connected to the internet at all.

Suggestions or answers please?

I can't see what's different since your post has not words about make, models, settings, firmware version...

I'm not sure what the model it is because it's in my roommates room. I'll try to get the model/make. And I'm sorry if I'm hard to cooperate with because I don't know much about routers or wireless internet.

Also as far as I know it has been set up as the linked had explained.

check your setting to remember your inputs or to automatically connect when the AP is in range. You can also delete other AP and keep only your roomates'

I had a similar problem with my i mac.
I tried everything imaginable. Nothing worked.
I was in Best Buy and told a computer salesperson about my problem.
When I told him who my provider was, he immediately said that it
was my Westell dsl modem. He stated that they do not work well with
wireless networks. I purchased a new Actiontech wireless modem for $79. It was extremely easy to install and set up. I have not had a single problem since. I would wonder if other modems might also be a problem.
Especially older ones.
