Netgear WGT624 v3 Issues

I am hoping someone more knowledgeable than I can help me out. I have been using a Motorola Surfboard 5500 Cable modem, with Comcast as the provider along with a Netgear WGT624 v3 router. I have had intermittent problems with lost signals over the past year but it has been manageable.
Yesterday, out of the clear blue, the connection speed over WAN has dropped from a normal of 54Mbps to 1 Mbps. I have reset the router, run the set up wizard, power cycled the modem and still, the speed is 1Mbps.
The firmware on the router is up-to-date, I don't believe there is any interference as the router has been working.
When I connect directly to the cable modem, the speed is fine.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
