Router Stops Working when downloading

I've got an odd problem with my landlords wireless router. It's a linksys router. When I download a large file, or multiple files at once the router will often stop working.(Does not happen every time) The landlord will still have internet but I won't...I try to refresh the network list but non show up. Once he unplugs the router and plugs it back in all is fine again, his network shows up, and I have no trouble reconnecting. Why would downloading in all froms limewire, torrents, and straight off the internet causee the router to shut down the network?

Limewire is known to do that.

It or other software hijacks the WINSOCK and generates complaints like yours.

What can you do except fetch what you want and eject the P2P software?

Is this the only reason? I've run adaware, hijack this and my virus scanner finds nothing. How come when the router is reset everything is fine again....how would resetting a router suddenly make the network appear on my PC...nothing changes on my pc...I guess i just dont understand winsock...even after a bit of reading...maybe a laymans definition would be helpful

If you don't believe the PC is the issue (did you note other PCs work ok?) then update the router firmware retest and if it fails replace the router.

I don't duplicate ready web content about winsock. Try WIKIPEDIA for that. In parting, WINSOCKFIXXP is a small utility you need to know about as well.

I don't really think the PC is the issue because resetting the router fixes it. Also when I loose his network I still pick up others in the area...which leads me to believe its a failing router which maybe gets stressed under heavy downloading maybe? I also get the limited or no connectivity sometimes.

Anywho it's no big deal to uninstal everything and run my virus/spyware cleaners + the ones you've suggested...they pick up nothing with them installed. Always good to run a good deep sweep.
