wireless over extended distance

I have two houses 400 yards apart but in sight of each other. I would like to use one modem then into a router and then transmit the signal to the other houses computer rather than buying another modem. This is too long a distance for Ethernet cable. What is the cheapist, less signal drop out, and most efficient means to do this? WiFi Antennas, extenders, cables?? I am running Windows XP professional with sevice pack 2, microsoft modem and Linksys router. We have broadband cable access.

We ran 10BT for over a mile. Beyond spec, but it worked fine. Cheap too.

802.11b Range over 750 feet?

Hi guys I've got a Link-Sys 802.11b router pushing a signal over 750 feet from my main house to a D-Link DWL-520 rev-D PCI card in my office in my other house, and I was wondering what I could do to get better signal from it with out spending a lot of money. I've already got a little tinfoil up behind all three antennas and I get some what good signal, but I was hoping that there might be some piece of software that might help? And does anyone know if they have made a good driver for my PCI card yet? The one I made for it does not work to well.

802.11g at 350 feet

My family has two houses 350 feet apart. Two laptops with built in Wireless recivers work just fine. I tried a Linksys Wireless WPC54G on another laptop and it registered -90 db (almost nothing) at the other house. I was wondering if the laptops with built in wireless were more sensitive than the plugin units?
Is there any one that has researched the sensitivity of various notebook plug-in units vs built in? Also how to find the most sensitive units?
