Internet explorer on dial up connection troubles

im not sure if this is the right forum but here goes

For some strange reason whenever i try running my internet explorer it only partly loads a screen before it becomes unresponsive and freezes.

im on a windows 98se with 56k dial up and i was wondering if anyone might know why this keeps happening..I have tried getting rid of the IE and redownloading and installing fresh ones and the problem remains. and yet when i use mozilla firefox the problem doesnt exist and while firefox is a decent browser its not quite the good ol' iE that i prefer

so if anyone could tell my why this might be happening and what i can do to fix it would be appreciated

The old reason was the WIN MODEMs used back then.

The host CPU is used for both the modem and the screen rendering so if it got a little busy then what you noted would happen. There was no real cure short of a "real hardware modem."

Your issue could be elsewhere but the clue is not in your post.

If that were the case then why does the problem not exist when i run the same pages under firefox?

And to be a bit clearer it's only within the last year that the problem arose when using ie

It's an old problem with well worn discussions. Forgive me if I decline to go over it all again. The cure is well known and for those that ask such as you just did it's best we let the reload the OS and carry on.

If its an old discussion then can you link me to it if it still exists? and as far as reloading os i wouldnt know how nor do i even have the the windows cd anymore

That's the big question here. Why repeat old discussions like this. The cures are well known (at least to those that lived through winmodem hell.) Why not share what was learned and call it a day?

and btw i haven't learned anything except its an old topic and as for why? because im only 22 yrs old and my computer is a hand me down from my mom and dad that ive had for 5 years now and i don't make enough money to go and pay for a new computer or parts when there are bills and groceries needed. and Mod or not you could at least point me in the right direction for my problem rather than just telling me its an old topic not worth discussing.

Use google to find out what a winmodem is and what the issues were back then. Also, it being an elder machine you can sometimes run into issues with heat and it slowing down making it more susceptible to the issue.
