Broadband forum: No Internet access after upgrate xp to win 7

I have no inkling of the make and model of the computer. There is no sign on the cover other than the Microsoft sticker confirming XP authenticity and the key number.

I tried the M/B disc but it shows all the Microsoft OS's up to the XP nothing further. I hope there is a solution without the pedigree of the Computer.

The people I thought; I bought the computer(a local firm, very reliable) from tell me that they never used Matsonic M/B. So I am, as the local Yorkshire saying goes, up the creek without a paddle!

Yes it is ethernet connected as I said in my first post.

You might want to try forums that do driver hunts?

That MB disc may have some markings on it that could assist the hunt but this looks like an old board that maybe we could install some current Ethernet card and try drivers for the new card?

Thank you gentlemen for your help and advice. It was a cheapest solution to an irritating problem. I bought a PCI for £8 and within fifteen minutes, fitting and switching on, the issue disappeared.
It is not only that you guys solve problems, you provide that "can do" mentality, which keeps people like me using our computers with added confidence.

I started from my computer running XP SP3.
My first attempt failed, which brought me to think that the process will not work unless I have full XP on my computer. So I began making sure that there is XP SP3 on my machine. That is why all the updates. I downloaded 71 in one go and many besides.Mostly security updates.

The Windows 7 Software DVD I used is "Windows 7, Home Premium, 32-bit. It says," Includes Windows,
Anytime Upgrade". The term "install" and "upgrade" is used interchangably . This terminology is that of Microsoft. In accordance with the instructions I did a "custom" install. Which I believe was to clean all the previous software and files. I was surprised to see so much on my Drive "C" after the process. Though I could not open any files.I did not install any drivers. The Internet was not available.The driver from the M/B was not available.

The instructions for the process on Microsoft web are titled,"Upgrading from WindowsXP to Windows 7".
I am no expert otherwise I would not be looking for help.Besides, I never argue with my Doctor, I follow the instructions .
I did not download anything after the Windows 7 was loaded. The Internet was not working. Since my wirless McBook was working using the same router I knew that it is my PC rather than the Internet router.
I hope I have covered all issues.
Do I buy the artifact you proposed to solve the issues?

You need to install all Windows 7 drivers for your motherboard and other hardware you have. Download them from the makers site. Microsoft doesn't put them on the Windows 7 DVD.

If no luck, reinstall Windows XP and enjoy that as long as it lasts.
