Hi experts,
My DSL connection drops frequently thruout the day.
Sometimes when I click Send/Receive in Outlook
I get error "The server cannot be found"
Similar intermittent problems when browsing web with IE 7. "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page"
I run the Diagnostics and got this report:
Using home Internet connection
Network connection: Name=Local Area Connection, Device=Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller, MediaType=LAN, SubMediaType=LAN
Network connection: Name=Local Area Connection 2, Device=Cisco Systems VPN Adapter, MediaType=LAN, SubMediaType=LAN
This machine has more than one Ethernet or more than one Wireless adapter
Redirecting user to support call
warn FTP (Passive): Error 12007 connecting to ftp.microsoft.com: The server name or address could not be resolved
warn HTTP: Error 12007 connecting to www.microsoft.com: The server name or address could not be resolved
warn FTP (Active): Error 12007 connecting to ftp.microsoft.com: The server name or address could not be resolved
HTTPS: Error 12007 connecting to www.passport.net: The server name or address could not be resolved
Could not make an HTTP connection.
Could not make an HTTPS connection.
Could not make an FTP connection.
My configuration:
- basic Westell DSL modem, the Power, Ethernet and Ready lights are ON
- no router
- XP Pro SP3
I ran Malwarebytes, found nothing.
Problem is intermittent - drops then reconnects seconds or minutes later.
I will provide additional info as requested. Thanks for any tips.

Try Linux from a LiveCD for a test. There's nothing in your post to say it's not the PC, the OS, DSL modem or such.

Thanks for the suggestion, Bob.
The problem began suddenly and seems to be worsening. I have to reboot a few times a day to be able to send email, browse the web.
I'm inclined to not want to run with Linux from LiveCD at this time.
My Westell DSL modem is 6 years old. I may cough-up $70 to ATT and replace it.
