Changing the IP of a DSL modem

I have a Aztech DSL modem model DSL306E, instructions say to type in the IP address 192.168.1.1 to enter setup. Unfortunately, the IP of my wireless router(access point) is the same, so when I type in the IP address at my browser, I enter setup of my wireless router. How do I change the IP of the DSL modem if possible, so that I can enter setup, or otherwise, a work around ? The OS is Windows XP Pro SP2. Thanks.

Even if you did change it, that sounds like an invalid setup

Most of the time you configure the DSL modem to a bridge mode and let your router do the router work.

The modem IP address. . .

is assigned by your ISP and is not changeable.

The address you gave is the router address to enter configuration mode. Mine is 192.168.1.100. Each brand will have a slightly different one, but they all start with 192.168.

Exactly what setup are you trying to do?

My home Network. DSL modem connected to wireless router(WAN port) which is connected(LAN) to a desktop via NIC. Other computers connect wirelessly. The DSL modem and the wireless router have the same IP, so as connected above, I am not able to enter setup of the modem, but only able to enter the wireless router. To setup the modem, I have to by pass the router by connecting directly to the NIC.(losing wireless connetivity) The problem: How to access the modem when it is connected as above. I have changed the LAN address of the router, i.e. now, to enter setup of the router, I have to use this new address. I am able to connect to the Internet. However, I still am not able to enter setup of the modem, hence my "thought" to change its address. Some IP address thing should be changed, but I have not yet figured it out.

The modem IP address is assigned by your ISP and is linked to the MAC address of the modem. This is carved in stone and is unchangeable by you. About every six months or so the ISP will change the IP address, hence you have a dynamic IP address. This is normal and the modem will accommodate this and relay that info to the router. But since you have a modem/router combo, I'm unable to help. I have cable and a separate modem and router. You might contact your ISP since they provided the hardware. Sorry.

Maybe-just maybe- there has been a mis-understanding of the "IP address" I was trying to describe. I know my ISP assign IP addresses to my modem. What I mean by "IP" is the address which came preset with the modem and router- I type in e.g. 192.168.1.1 . For my present setup, this is the same for both modem and router, so there is a conflict. For my previous modem, I type in a different address 10.0.0.2. There were no problems. Anyway - thanks for your efforts.

This needs to be in bridge mode. DSL 305E

After looking at the 306 I am convinced you have the DSL 305E. Be sure to correct such typos for the best help.

As you have it, this is double natting or you have an invalid setup.

If you have what I suspect then change the IP of the router.

ftp://ftp.aztech.com/Malaysia/Manual/DSL305E/EZStart1.0.pdf on page 3 shows the LAN configuration item but sadly I can't find the web page to show the screen. This is where I'd make this change.

... but sorry for a typo. The modem is actually the DSL605E. I am trying to find things out from the link you provided. There should be some information there.
