Broadband + Dial up at the same time,Can I do This?

Hello,
Can I have a broadband and a dial-up isp service, switching back and forth between both? I currently use Comcasts broadband but want to try out dial-up. I was thinking about installing NetZero, making sure its working ok, then going ahead and droping the comcast (too much $).

I have broadband (Comcast cable) and have retained my modem for FAXing. I can also dial up my other ISP (SBC Yahoo!) with the modem, it's just a slight change in the Tools, Internet Options, Connections menu, change it to "Always dial. . ." Click "Never dial. . ." when you're ready to go back to broadband.

I have both Comcast and NetZero on my laptop. I use my cable access at home and NetZero on the road. When intalling NetZero be sure to designate the modem as the connection. Then use the NetZero desktop icon to access NetZero and use your Internet Explorer icon for cable access.
P.S. Be sure you do not have the cable connection connected to your computer when accessing NetZero.

Comcast + Netzero

I am currently using both without problem. Netzero offeres 10 hours per month free. If I need to send a message through MS Outlook, I need to use Netzero dialup to do so. I click on the Netzero icon on desktop for dialup... once done, close out and then log on through Comcast normally. I don't remember having to do any configuring with Netzero. Good luck

I use broadband cable all the time, but occasionally I need to send an email using my dialup ISP.

I have the dialup network, (DUN), icon for my dialup ISP on my desktop and just click to open then click connect, and the modem dials up the ISP. I don't have to change any settings in IE or anywhere else. IE is always set to, ''Never dial a connection'', but I can still browse and surf using it on dialup.

You should note, whilst using dialup you will not get broadband speeds. However I haven't tried Bob's suggestion so I don't know if Netswitcher allows you to use both at the same time, eg use one browser for dialup surfing and another for cable speed surfing at the same time.

I remember using both broadband and Netzero at the same time last year -- never had a problem as far as I could tell.

I figured the laptop could sort it all out and it did.

Sure it's possible, in fact AOL do a special package which includes Broadband and Dial up charges, no limits on either.
I have Broadband on AOL and a Dial up modem (V.92) also so i can stay connected no matter what happens.

Hey Mike,

I'm from Australia so I'm not sure if things are different where your from but before we got our new broadband modem/router I used the broadband and my son used the dial-up at the same time and had no problems. Here when you sign up with an IP provider (I use a telephone company called Primus here in Oz) for broadband they allow you to continue having your dial-up as well as the broadband without it costing anymore money. I'd be asking whoever you have your account with if they do something along the same lines. Just remember though if you if you do decide to go to dial-up it's alot slower than what your used to with broadband.
Don't know if this will have been of any help but take it easy and have a good one.
