It mainly depends on what OS version you are running.
If it is < X then you might try Norton Undelete. I don't like it but it "might" save you.
I have not found an Undelete type utility for OS X other than the one in TechTool Pro. That's not to say that there aren't any others.
Your problem is that you did not actually delete the file, but saved another file, or the same one but empty, with the same name. In the case of the deleted file, it is intact but with a switched Flag. In your case, the new file has replaced the old and the directory showing where all the parts of the old file are, has been updated to show where the new file parts are.
Not much help, sorry. Those two programs are worth a try but I would NOT go out and purchase Norton just for this.
Guess you will be looking for a good backup utility next?
