Hi there
I have an external hard drive that I have been using to save all my work on (nigh on 700GB at the mo) and have noticed that on certain computers, the files open as read only.
I have previously used a windows PC and recently purchased a Mac. Am not only having the same problem, but it's actually worse. It won't let me save even with an altered name.
It says I have no permission to save in the folder.
Have no idea how to change the permissions on the had drive to allow me access to save work on it.
Please help!

Many Windows external drives are formatted NTFS and on many Apple's this will show as readable and read-only. There are third part apps to fix this BUT I strongly suggest you use this opportunity to get another drive to prepare with the Apple with Apple's file system then copy all the files over. This way you don't risk losing what's on that drive.

Folk are often very upset when the external drive contents vanish. It's not storage.
