it want to put in it's own ip address so i tried turning it off and tried to dhcp with manual address and put in the correct one. still same error.

Be sure you are not using any Proxy thing/setting. It can cause such a problem.

the network works for any other machine that ever tried to log on to my network and has a pc running on it currently.
The fault is in preverences/ network settings, or this dongles own prefs
OK. Back to basics.

1. Did it ever work?
2. Does the product mention 10.3.9? I find many of the PPC machines to not be supported.
3. Not to leave you without a WiFi solution, I just picked up this thing -> http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-WNCE2001-Universal-Internet-Adapter/dp/B007CO5DZ4/
Item 3 connects almost any thing to your WiFi.

answers
1) since 2004 always on eithernet or modem connections.
2) definately mentions 10.3.9 panther It comes up on any search for that system
3) I may have to try this but I'm giving their tech support one more try.
What system/os are you running this with?

Good to know. Time to try something else.
I have run OSes from the days of the GE-210 to present including OS/2, PSOS and too many others over the years. I also did admin for those Digital Equipment microVax running VMS.
