General Mac software discussions forum: What is a good dictation software for Mac?

IF you are looking to record lectures and have the program transcribe it into written form - am not sure technology to do that is yet available. It will do it - but there may be so many errors, that it might not be worth while.

In the new Mountain Lion OS, Apple is bringing voice dictation, and that comes out in a few weeks! Seeing that Apple generally makes great products, I'm sure the dictation will be really good. However if your machine is too old to upgrade to Mountain Lion I recommend Dragon Dictation.

I don't know if you found a good dication software for lectures but having been on the 'help chat' at Dragon/Nuance, it's clear that it's not going to help you...or I.

The product is licensed for one voice only and apparently, if you want to have a lecture dictated, you'd have to speak the same words as the lecturer echoing them for the software to do it's job. Completely impossible!

I wanted to do one-to-one interviews for my research and save myself the bother of typing up the responses or paying someone else to do it from an audio file (being about £50 for 30 mins). However, once again, I'd have to echo the person being interviewed for the software to do the job. "Would that be okay for you?" asked the chat woman. "Of course it wouldn't!" I replied. "Just think how stupid this conversation would have been if I'd typed everything back to you that you'd typed to me - a waste of your time and mine!"
She had nothing much to say to that so I politely ended the conversation.

Such a shame. It's gonna cost me so much time transcribing all that data
