Remote access to airport disk from an iPad

Apologies if this has been covered - I've searched, but not seen an answer.

I have an airport extreme with a USB disk connected to it. My desktop Mac can access internet etc, and see/use this disk wirelessly.

My iPad can also connect to the internet wirelessly via the airport, but cannot see the disk.

Why ?

Apple tech help say (but don't/can't explain why) it isn't possible to have remote access via an iPad, but that's a bit hard to believe if the iPad hype about lighter, smaller alternative to a laptop is to be believed.

Any thoughts ?

I'm just a programmer and never found anyone that hyped the iPad as an alternative to a laptop. There's so much missing in the iPad. Such as how would I write Apps on an iPad?

You're right. It's hype and sorry that someone believed it.

Having said that, I do own a Kingston WiDrive and it's working fine.

iPad access to Airport Drive

I use an app called ezshare pro to access the hard disk attached to my Airport Extreme from my iPhone and iPad. It works well when on the same wireless LAN, it allows video streaming and storing of local copies as well.

I would like to find a way to access the hard drive when I am not connected to the same wireless network. Is it possible to access it via the Internet on my iPad, I have back to my mac set up which works with my laptop but not my iPad.
