not so long ago I started hearing what sounded like a cricket chirping from inside my iMac.
Didn't happen often but it began to be annoying.
I finally found the culprit. A small program called WeatherBug. To draw attention to a weather alert, it would flash its icon in the menu bar and make a chirping cricket sound.
Are you sure you don't have something installed that could be causing this wolf sound?
It would be strange, and highly coincidental, for two different machines to come down with exactly the same curious, and previously unheard of, symptom.
Think about what you have installed, on both machines, lately.

Thanks, and I have looked for weather bug to no avail, on either machine. Any other ideas what program may be causing this howling?

Your problem is something else.
Does the noise happen ALL the time or only at certain times?
Is there a pattern/

Thanks for the response. I do not have both machines next to each other so I do not know if it happens at the same time. Interval can be hours between each howl! CAn't find any regular pattern however!
