I'm used to there being some excellent free security software for ms machines like spybot, zone alarm and adaware and the reviews certainly support this on cnet downloads but since the reviews are not as abundit for mac software I have to ask are you using ClamXav and what does it do ?

works well enough for my purposes too. But it doesn't help anyone with the "older" OS X 10.2X because it is for OS X 10.3x However the no longer supported version of "clam" won't update anymore, so you get a 2 out of recommnded 5 security-wise.

Why are you looking for antivirus software for a Mac?

Macs have no in the wild virus threats, so virus software is not a high priority. What are the specs on the ibook? Will it run Tiger? This would be a much better investment than antivirus software.
