Windows Media Player 10 crashes when playing DVD

Hi,
I am having problem playing DVD's with WMP 10.
As soon as I click on play DVD, WMP tries to play
the DVD (I can hear the DVD-Rom drive noise),
but instantly WMP window disappears. I have downloaded
the codec package from microsoft web site. Will very
much appreciate help in fixing this.
I have WXP SP1 and have .256MB of ram.

Other media players?

Do other DVD media players play the DVD?

Windows Media Player 10 alone does not come with a DVD playback. However if you purchase a DVD plug-in or install some DVD software, you may be able to play DVDs.

Which codec did you download at Microsoft?

Thanks for the reply. The codec I installed was from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx
(executable: WM9Codecs.exe)

Reading the descriptions it seemed like that's what I
needed for DVD. Unfortunately I don't have any other
DVD player installed. Can I get a free plug-in from
any site?

and look for K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.29

DVD player

Many DVDs have a DVD player software that you can install on them. I think it's Interactial or somthing like that.
I have use the free one a few times and it's better than
WMP10 for DVDs.
EVEN XPMCE dosen't have a DVD player in it you have to install an OEM player.
Most DVD drives come with softare. John
