i just bought a dvd-r movie burned. the audio is not audible on my sony dvd player.
this player has played ALL other dvd-r's of old shows that i've bought or burned myself. the audio also doesn't play on one computer - power dvd. however, this dvd-r audio DOES plays on the computer's vlc,,,sony portable dvd player,,,my other computer,,,and when i encoded it to divx. one problem though is that the audio plays on the right side only.
on the sony dvd player that doesn't play the audio, when i hit the "audio" button it says "others" where it normally should say "english".
**computers are homexp/vlc/power dvd. sony dvd player, sony portable dvd player.
any suggestions? thx

Video DVD is a standard carved in stone and does not include DivX. So that's a very good reason for it to fail.
VLC Player plays most "things" so you've shown again how good that is.
-> Try to make a standard Video DVD next time.

i encoded to divx only to see if it would, ie that the audio encode as well.
my problem lies with the dvd-r movie i purchased, since IT'S audio plays on 3 things(vlc, my computer, portable dvd player, as an encoded divx file) and NOT on 2(sony dvd player, wife's power dvd software). i checked all the settings i can think of on the sony dvd player and it also plays everything else(dvd-r) at it's current setting.
Then what's more to write?

The DVD is not encoded as a "Video DVD." As what that is, is widely discussed I can't write more about that.

The issue is pretty clear here as well as the solution. It's up to you to reveal more. That is, I don't know what tools you have and I also don't know why you would encode in ways the players won't play.
Tell more. That way I can see where you are and if the tools you have can make a "Video DVD".
