DVD playing too quietly

My sister has the problem of DVDs playing too quietly on her computer. The menus play at a good volume, but she has to put her speakers at max to hear the episodes themselves. This happens in both PowerDVD and WMP.

Has anyone else had this problem, and more importantly, found a solution for it?

"Sounds like you're suffering from the standard DVD soundtrack. happy Most DVD soundtracks use far more of the dynamic range than most computer programs do.

If your DVD player software supports it, try changing the dynamic range to something less. That should be under the "Advanced Audio Properties", then the "Miscellaneous" tab. Lastly, select "Noisy Environment", which will compress the dynamic range. This means that the soundtrack will be highly compressed, and there'll be much less difference between quiet and loud sounds."

PS. Will not work with all playback formats. i.e. AVI. The last post asked, but what can one do?
