slow video.....

hi happy
i have a 733mhz HP PC with windows ME, 128m RAM, and about 10G free on the hard drive

I can't play back any video format (mpeg, quicktime, divx, etc) smoothly...the video becomes incredibly choppy, and it is impossible to view the video at anything higher than 80% size. i have tried several different programs to play the files, and the problem seems to affect all of them. i'm pretty sure that this condition wasn't always there...it only showed up after my computer had been on a network. however, now, it isn't networked, and i'm not sure how to fix this..

You may have to work very hard since causes are many. From pests, virus, trojans, Norton Antivus or other.

Use all the tools and more.

Mr. Profitt is right the causes are many. The other thing you want to keep in mind is that the 700 series P3 Celeron processor's Microsoft came out with also had a severe power drain problem. I worked on many PC's that were jittery and Froze up due to this power drain. Microsoft actually admitted a few years ago these processor's had some flaws. There were articles on the internet about these problems. Even increasing the onboard RAM to maximum and increasing the power packs up to 350 to 450 Watt if we opened multiple programs they still froze up. While you should be able to play Video you may still find the film choppy. I would search for an updated Video driver after checking for viruses to see if this solves some of your problem.
