Video recording advice

I am trying to set up a video recording system to train interviewers. What would be the best media to use? There would be 10 offices each with a dedicated camcorder. The trainees would need to bring their recorded videos to a classroom, so that they can be viewed and critiqued. IN the past, we used VHS, as they were universal and could be popped into any player anywhere.
Now, using VHS seems antiquated. Using DVD involves "closing" discs so they are universally playable which means that each trainee would have to be tech savvy. Any advice would be appreciated. The offices could have a camcorder with a dedicated recorder(free standing) so the media used by the camcorder could be irrelevant

Closing DVD

You do not have to be tech savvy to able to close a DVD - there is no "skill" involved. The camcorder will do it for you.
