How to pull JUST audio from a video clip?

Hello!
I'm trying to pull just the audio from a video clip that I have on my Dell PC. I captured it using Dazzle/Pinnacle/Studio Version 9, and I also have Roxio Easy Media Creator 8. It needs to be saved in a file format that I can play on most computers (mp3?).

How I did it

In case anyone in the future ever cares, this is how I did it: I downloaded Audacity (1.2.4), and it only allows you to import audio files. You have to first demux it somewhere else, which was all I needed to do anyway.

I downloaded Windows Media Encoder 9, which includes Windows Media Stream Editor. I converted my video clip to WMV, then used the Stream Editor to grab just the audio. It worked perfectly the first time.

P.S. Didn't try Virtual Dub - that might work, don't know.

For example, you can press it's record button and play the clip. It records from the digital stream...

I tried that and it gave me a hideous screeching racket.

I just found this on sonicspot.com: "Audacity can record live audio through a microphone or mixer, or digitize recordings from cassette tapes, vinyl records, or minidiscs. With some sound cards, it can also capture streaming audio."

Maybe I have the wrong sound card?

Anyway, Media Encoder was free, too, so all is well.
