Why can't I see messages from Gmail in my Outlook 2007?

Messages go from Outlook to Gmail, but not in opposite direction. Gmail and Outlook are set to IMAP. Actually, the messages appeared in Inbox in Outlook for a brief while when I was setting the connection, but when I saved the setting in Outlook, closed the program and than restarted it in awhile, the massages disappeared and nowhere to be found. At least I don't know where they go to. Please help.

My knowledge of computers and Outlook is basic, if not worse, so, please help in plain English. Million of thanks beforehand

Ok, I have found an answer to my questions - my gmail is in Outlook 2007 under my e-mail address.
