Outlook 2010 - automatically delete without AutoArchive?

Using Outlook 2010 with an Exchange account, and AutoArchive has been disabled by our system administrators.

I'm wondering if there is another way to automatically delete messages that are more than X days old. It would save me having to do this manually.

but there must be a reason why the Exchange Administrators have done this and we can't contravene their policy.

I can only suggest you ask them about this.
