Looking for Collaboration / Communication Tools

Hello,

I have to manage a project among 30 individuals all across the world, and am looking for real collaboration / communication tools to facilitate this. We need real-time updates that are available to the whole group, while having the ability (from the manager / administrators point of view) to change viewing settings among particular team members.

Any suggestions?

Google documents could be helpful, however, in the past I've had difficulty with the processing speed. Also, can only one person be in a particular document at one time? A solution that allows file sharing and syncs calendar appointments, tasks, email, etc. all within real time would be quite useful.

Have a team member create such a thing. Co-editing is an old discussion with long discussions about this or that. I won't repeat it ever again.

But the usual fix is to break the book into chapters and the collisions are then reduced.

While GoogleApps can let you change viewing settings,it doesn't direct you to updates. Not good for managing outsourced employees. In-the-know companies are now using a real-time collaborative tool called shareFLOCK that has a user interface similar to Facebook. Lets you in on real-time activities by your workers, lets file-sharing,syncs,calendar,chat,post pics, etc. It's virtually a mix of fun& work. Your post is kinda old so I'm guessing you're using shareFLOCK by now.Same here!

Basic & Popular Collaboration Tools

Since I always go for free ones, this combination of tools might also work for you. This is what we use. we are around 50 in our team.

Google Docs - for documents. Might be a bit slow for you but for the free access, i can do away with it.
BaseCamp - for company communication
Skype - for voice and video chat.
Time Doctor - for accurate time tracking and monitoring of the employees' work
Dropbox - for online file sharing

Those are the basic ones. Most of the virtual teams use those as their main collaboration tools.
