Because of abuse, the new setting is to disable the reciept of the NET SEND command.

Well let me give you a lil more info..

When I was in school Im almost sertain we were on Win-2000 with regular user rights not admin rights and I have no clue as to what the very simple and short code was but I do think it had name of the computer you were trying to message in the code.

basically you can message any computer on the local network it might have been a windows ALERT and not a message but not sure about this.

Im currently on a network managed by WinServer 2003 and our systems are running on Win98..

That's NET SEND.

Again, due to abuse Microsoft has disabled the receipt of such messages with a Windows Update.

You can re-enable it as you see fit.

In the Services control panel, enable the Messenger service.

Done. Of course if you have a firewall, you need to allow that traffic.

Hallo, I am a system administrator and I want to known how I can send a simple text message to another computer on my local network thru DOS.
We used server 2003 standard, and all client computer run windows xp professional. Thanks in advance, I waiting for a speedy replay from you side.

The answer was given but you asked anyway.

Please read the responses or tell me you can't see it.

I don't want to sound cruel but an sys admin would know to read those words in RED when you post as well as never post email addresses in the clear (and tell their users not to do that.)

Don't you get enough SPAM?

The command is NET SEND. There are no steps involved.

I'm unsure if we need to break it down further for the admins of our networks.

u must put systems in same network as you know.

step1 : start --> run --> (type) services.msc --> (press) ok

step2 : find for 'messenger' services (you can press 'm' as well to find it)

step3 : double click it ! change status form disabled to automatic if it is 'disabled'.

step4 : press start button & finish the process.

step5 : open your command prompt

step6 : type the following "net send ComputerNameHere some messages overhere"

step7 : Enter to send
