Scanner line issue

I have an Epson Expression 836XL and it has been a workhorse for scanning in my wife's fine art watercolors. I've had some compatibility issues (OSX 10.5.8 on Intel iMac) but always seem to get it to work. Just the other day it started scanning with a line near the middle that stars about halfway through the scan and grows larger as it reaches the bottom. There is nothing on the glass or scanbed that would cause this. Is the scanner going or is there some other issue?

That scanner uses a parallel interface. All current scanners, for PCs, now use USB, which is not only faster, but more 2-way commutative, and easier to connect.

Plus, many of the new computers don't even have parallel interfaces.

I can see that there are a half dozen other reasons, but if you like it, with your problematic line and all, then forget about buying a new scanner, which might set you back about $40 to $100. Of course, for $100 there is probably going to be a printer and Fax machine included. Your call.
