No omnibox using desktop shortcut

In Chrome, I type in Google.com. Google appears on my monitor with an omnibox and the three horizontal lines that I use for my Chrome adjustments. I then click tools and create an Application shortcut. Now I go back to my desktop and there is my shortcut and I click on it. Google Chrome comes up BUT WITHOUT the omnibox so I cannot change the size of my text or other functions that I can only get when the three horizontal line are present in the omnibox (or address box as I used to call it). Any suggestions to access Google thru my desktop shortcut and keep the address box in view?
