,,,,and tabs O.K. I thought it might have something to do with this link from which you can make a site an app, but not sure enough to work with it to eliminate. That said, my most used sites are on my task bar.

Why don"t I use IE since it's still open to such exploits? Because it takes me forever to make changes.

Recovery from such exploits seems to take a long time. Grif has some scans for you to perform. Here's the link.

Once you fix it, I'd still consider using another browser.

.....but I don't understand why you think it is something so serious. I feel it is a form of advertising along the lines of popups, which I do not allow. My NIS does not see any problem, nor do Malware and SAS free scans.

You can always unpin. If it's more than that you have to dive in, scan and learn what nasty thing has decided to thrust itself onto your computer.
