How does a Browser work?

From my limited experience with creating web pages I thought I knew how browsers worked. When you went to a web site, the server there would send a bunch of text files to your computer and your browser would construct the web page for you to view. This is how I was able to construct my own web page on my local computer without being connected to the internet, right?.. Then here is my question. When I was signing up for a web site data storage account they said, ' We monitor your mouse movements to enhance your security on our site'. So, if I am looking at their site which my browser (Firefox) has reconstucted on my local computer is Firefox broadcasting my local mouse movements to the site? If so, how do I prevent Firefox from sending anything unless I so direct it?
