Adobe Flash Player Non-IE: Must it Be Removed To replace It?

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 with WinXP, and I am using
Adobe Flash Player (AFP) which of course comes in two varieties, IE and non-IE. Somewhere along the line I got instructed to remove AFP before replacing it when a new
rendition becomes available.
I use File Hippo Update Checker to check on updates.
So,say I see a notification, AFP Non-IE is ready for replacement. I can if I like download it from FileHippo.
Fine, FH is a very safe depository, but: MUST I UNINSTALL
AFP? Please explain in terms of IE asd well as Non-IE AFP.
