AOL mail cannot be accessed using Google Chrome

I recently installed Google Chrome & cannot access my aol mail (mail.aol.com). I can using Internet Explorer 9 & Firefox without any problem. I am using Windows 7 Professional on my laptop, which has the problem but don't have this problem on my older desktop using Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I get the following error after about waiting for a minute for the page to try and load: "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to mail.aol.com:81" I deleted my browsing history, cookies, everything, etc. but it still does not work.
Please help ASAP!!!

It may be a simple settings change to prevent Chrome from accessing older 'failed attempts' from cache, instead of trying to connect again.

I am running Windows 7 Professional & Google Chrome version 20.0.1132.57 m.
In the wrench icon, there is No Options item to select. There is Settings but no box to uncheck regarding DNS Pre fetch settings, so I don't see it to try & fix this problem. This is a new installation of Google Chrome, so my AOL mail never loaded since I installed Google Chrome. I can get my AOL with other browsers such as Internet Explorer 9 & Firefox without any problems.

Yep it is still there even in the new Chrome

But they don't make it any easier.

Wrench > Settings > "Show advanced settings" (at the bottom), then remove the tick for "Predict network actions to improve page load performance".

Shut down and reload Chrome and test.

My apologies for being so late in replying.

Well frankly I'm stumped. I searched the Google Chrome forums for "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to mail.aol.com:81" and found a couple of posts, but in neither was there a response.

Have a read of http://www.webtlk.com/2011/02/08/how-to-solve-google-chrome-cant-access-email-accounts/ and see if there is anything that helps.

If not I wonder if this is a certification issue between Chrome and AOL. In Chrome Settings then Advanced Settings, find HTTPS/SSL and click the "Managing Certificates" button. SSL is often used with email servers.

In the new window click the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" tab. I can see a certificate there for America Online Root, (I had to drag the column header to the right to see it all), and this expires on May 30 2020. What does yours show?

Other than that I have no further ideas. At least you can still access AOLMail on your other browsers.
