Browsers forum: How to get rid of MyStart by IncrediBar on Firefox

I had to email Babylon to finally get the answer I needed. Nowhere on the internet did I see the "Tab Issue" Section. I did all of the steps and finally when I did the "Tab Issue" my new tab is no longer Babylon. Here's Babylon's answers:

In order to uninstall Babylon and all is features completely ,follow the 4 steps below :
1) Uninstall Babylon Software:

2) Change Babylon Home Page (Internet Explorer \ Firefox \ Google Chrome):

Tab Issue IE

In order to stop this new tab issue, please do as follows:

Open your Internet Explorer browser, click on "Tools", then "Internet Options" and in the section "Tabs" click on "Settings". It will open a new window, on the option "When a new tab is opened, open:" in the drop-down menu please choose "Your first homepage". Then click OK, Apply and OK.

Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Add-ons". It will open a popup. Click in the "Extensions" tab. Look for the "Babylon Search" extension. Click the "Uninstall" button. Then close and reload Firefox.


To remove the search new tab in Firefox please use the following steps:

• In the address bar write : about:config

• remove the babylon "search.babylon.com" from the |keyword.URL"
• change the search.babylon.com to any of the search provider you want example : ( www.google.com )


• remove the babylon "search.babylon.com" from the |extensions.babylontoolbar.newtaburl"
• change the search.babylon.com to any of the search provider you want example : ( www.google.com )

i tried permanently deleted google chrome then downloading it again. that didn't work :P not that mystart is bad, it just annoys me that it thinks it can just pop up without my approval. plus google chrome is suitable enough for me. please tell me another way to remove Mystart.com. PLEASE!

i figured it out. go to your start menu. look up "add or remove programs." a list of programs will show up. first, to get rid of blekko inc. click on "blekko" and click uninstall. same for mystart. it shouldn't be hard since there in alphabetical order. if you don't understand what's above apply it to what's below.

this is so irritating. i deleted mystart and everything associated with mystart and it's still showing up. STUPID VIRUS!!!!!!

With Firefox:

Tools
Add-ons

You'll see Incredibar. Check Disable, then check Remove.

That solved it for me with Firefox and Windows 7.

Okay, I think I've got it.

1)In about:config, search "mystart" and "incredibar" and reset all values directly pertaining to those two terms.

2)search for "extensions.installCache" if you open the string and scroll carefully, you should see something that looks like the following:

'{"name":"app-profile","addons":{"ffxtlbr@incredibar.com":{"descriptor":"C:\\Users\\**YourUsername**\\AppData\\Roaming\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\Profiles\\mq917j3n.default\\extensions\\ffxtlbr@incredibar.com"'

3) Follow this string to find the location of the MyStart addon. When you find the containing folder, in this case "ffxlbr@incredibar.com," DO NOT DELETE it, but take note of and rename all the files with non-executable extensions like ".jpg". ".com" is another form of executable and should be treated and renamed just like any suspicious ".exe" should. If you notice anything crashing or functioning improperly, you can simply rename the files with their original names, no harm done.

4) Redo all scans, and make sure you clean everything up as suggested by others, resetting values in Firefox, etc.

5) If you have no problems with any other extensions' performance after a week or two's use, go ahead and delete that containing folder if you feel it won't affect anything as these were likely your target files.

I too had this problem with the mystart incredibar with firefox when i opened up a new tab it opened up with mystart i tried all sorts of scans to get rid of it.
In the end i uninstalled firefox then reinstalled the latest version now its gone seems too simple but it worked

i was facing the same problem in chrome. i just went in the extension in settings of google chrome. there i found an extention by the name of " new tab for chrome and firefox" . ijust deleted the extension and there it goes. now the there is no problem of my start by incrediblebar.com

After I spent a bit of time thrashing thru some "Try This's & That's", I read the instructions at:

I then went to Tools/Add-Ons & disabled the most obvious possibility, which in my case was "Web Assistant", restarted FF, & the new tab MyStart search page intrusion was gone. I then removed it with Add Remove Progs where I had previously seen but did not suspect it. I guess I could have done all four steps of the 'just answer' site but this much worked for me.

Incredibar's MyStart has become very popular with the freeware programmers trying to keep financially afloat. I hope it remains as easy to remove.

Go back to your control panel under uninstall programs and look toward the bottom for something called "web assistant" look across it under publisher it'll say incredibar or incredibar toolbar .... select that and uninstall. This will not affect Incredimail if you have it installed.

Not sure if permanent but spybot search and destroy will remove it. Have used this program many many times to fix problems for friends and family! Love it..

I tried several options in this thread, and this worked for me:

The correct way to get Incredimail Mystart out of Firefox is:
1. At Firefox address bar, enter about:config and press ENTER.
2. At Filter: field, type keyword.url
3. You should see a Preference name of keyword.URL in the list. Double click it, a "Enter String Value" input box will appear.
4. Replace the string with: http://www.google.com.my/search?q= Click "OK" button
For Internet Explorer, you just install Google Toolbar again, and Mystart goes away.

Do that AND the following:

The correct way to get Incredimail Mystart out of Firefox is:
1. At Firefox address bar, enter about:config and press ENTER.
2. At Filter: field, type mystart
3. At least 1 entry will appear, right click, click RESET

4. At filter: field, type incredibar
5. At least 1 entry will appear, right click, click RESET (for me there were several, about 25 or so entries)

After doing this, everything appeared to work normally. Hopefully nothing crops back up.

Maybe FF load page long time than Chrome. I tested my site and I see that.

The program changes the Chrome browser so that the menu for features is different now. I put a crash report into Chrome, but of course there was no response.
Firefox can be opened to my start page, but when a tab is opened, it goes straight to SHITBAR.
Got Explorer cleaned out, or so it seems for now.

This program is completely nefarious....reminds me of the Bagel virus from 10 years ago. Would hijack your browser and take you to the most asinine porn websites that look like they were put together by children.

and it's promoters are all ****** IN THE HEAD!

MyStart is an aggressive search tool which after certain free downloads attaches itself to all your browsers.
It spreads itself everywhere changing your Homepage.
I had tried all suggestions but whatever you do it returns but I got rid of it simply by uninstalling the infected browser.
1. Make sure you have IE installed
2. You should be able to import your favorites to IE from Firefox and Google
3. Uninstall Firefox and/or Google
4. Restart your computer
5. Reinstall the same browsers
6. Import your favorites from IE
7. Now check IE so see if MyStart has gone otherwise the same must be done with IE, also importing it's favorites to another browser

I found this method is the easiest and 100% working tried on my pc

i just got it .. tried about 10 of the ways listed to get rid of it .. had a minor meltdown and then uninstalled firefox, reinstalled it and it was gone
