Annoying "Do you want to view only the webpage content...

OS is Win XP SP3. After a recent windows update, every time I start IE8 I get that box which asks:

"Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely? This webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS connection, which could compromise the security of the entire webpage."

Under Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom Level...Display Mixed Content, Prompt is checked. On my Windows VISTA machine this box is also checked but I don't get this annoying message each time I start IE on the VISTA machine.

I'm hesitant to make a change under Display Mixed Content because I don't want to put my system at an unnecessary risk. How can I safely fix this issue?

UPDATE: I noticed that box pops up mainly when I go to the Yahoo Mail Login page, which I have set as my homepage.

I'm not sure about this Walt. There are a couple of issues.

1] Many web login sites never used https to secure login, and this left logins insecure. Facebook was one if I remember rightly. I assume Yahoo is now using https to secure login to their web account pages.

2] But even so, IE is telling you that Yahoo's Login page also includes content from http sources which is not secure. Ahh, I can see this now. In Firefox I just get a plain Login page for my Yahoo account, (I have AdBlockPlus installed as an Add-on), but in IE, with no anti-advertising plugins, I get a full page advert on the Yahoo login page. The advert has links I could click, and it might be those that are insecure.

Mixing secure and insecure content on the same page might be dangerous, it seems. So, your choice here. IE is just giving you a friendly warning. Major sites like Yahoo should be clean of 'click through' malware, but it does happen, even to the best of sites.

I bet you can't change your "Best Answer" to mine now! happy
