IE6 Problems

My friend was having problems with her older version of IE (5.x maybe?); one thing I noticed is when I'd type in a web address, it would act like it couldn't find it and then display a link to exactly the same site spelled the same way as I typed it. So I downloaded IE6 from www.download.com and it still didn't fix the problem. Now she says that she cannot type in user names, passwords, etc. in the text boxes on internet pages. She said that when she clicks on a text box to type her password in nothing happens. Is there any way to fix this?

IE6 Problems = Most likely SPYWARE.
