Server Not Found often with Firefox

by flingwing - 12/12/08 5:17 AM

This problem often happens with my Firefox browser (version 2). As an example: I click to open a link in a new tab, but I continue reading the current web page while giving time for the link to open in the new tab. But then, when I go to the new tab, I find the new link has not been opened - a Server Not Found message, instead.

However, if I click to open a link in a new tab, and then immediately mouse over to that new tab, and wait while the page opens, inevitably, the new link more often DOES open okay, albeit slowly.

This situation happens a lot when, say, Im researching some topic and clicking to open several new tabs at once. The new tabs all appear at the top of my browser, but most or all of the new web pages will fail to open. Again, I get server not found error messages. However, when I click on one of the new tabs Try Again button, and then WAIT for the page to open, the pages often will open.

As a comparison, I tried opening new URLs with Internet Explorer, too. Of course, with IE youre opening new windows with each click to open new links. However, with IE the new links seemed to open without having to enlarge each new window and then waiting while its link opened.

Do you think this is a problem with my computer (memory?), my (admittedly usually slow) broadband connection, or with Firefox? Thanks.
